TERMS OF USE
Last updated: 31 August 2026
About these terms
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of ippcommitteeinaction.com. By using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the website. Separate conditions may apply to future events, donations, formal evidence submissions or participation in the People’s Inquiry. Where that happens, those conditions will be clearly explained.
About us
This website is operated by IPP Committee in Action, a family-led and evidence-based pressure movement campaigning for the retrospective abolition of the Imprisonment for Public Protection sentence and for truth, justice and accountability. The website provides public information, research, commentary, lived-experience perspectives, campaign material and information about the developing People’s Inquiry into the IPP sentence.
Information and advocacy
The material on this website is provided for general information, public education and campaigning purposes. It does not constitute legal, medical, psychological or other professional advice. It must not be treated as a substitute for advice based on a person’s individual circumstances. You should not make decisions about legal proceedings, parole, licence conditions, recall, healthcare or important deadlines solely on the basis of information published on this website. Independent professional advice should be obtained where appropriate. Some material expresses campaigning positions, analysis or opinion. We aim to distinguish clearly between established facts, personal testimony, allegations, analysis and opinion. Publication of testimony or an allegation does not mean that it has been accepted as a finding by a court, tribunal or inquiry.
Accuracy and corrections
We take reasonable care to publish information responsibly and accurately. However, laws, policies, statistics and individual circumstances can change, and we cannot guarantee that every item will always be complete, current or free from error. Where possible, readers should consult the original source of legislation, judgments, official statistics and government publications. We welcome responsible requests for corrections, clarification or a right of reply. Please contact us through the Contact page and identify the page, statement and supporting information concerned. We may correct, update, clarify or remove material where reasonably necessary.
The People’s Inquiry
Information about the People’s Inquiry may change as its governance, leadership, terms of reference, evidence procedures and safeguarding arrangements are developed. Unless a page expressly states that an official evidence process has opened, this website does not constitute a formal call for evidence. Contacting us or sending us information does not automatically:
create a confidential or legally privileged relationship;
constitute a formal submission to the Inquiry;
guarantee participation, publication or a response; or
mean that the information has been accepted as verified evidence.
Formal evidence will only be received through an approved process supported by appropriate privacy, consent, security and safeguarding arrangements.
Victims and survivors
Victims and survivors of crime must be treated with dignity, independence and respect. Participation in any campaign, panel or future Inquiry process will be voluntary. No victim or survivor will be required to support retrospective abolition, IPP Committee in Action or any particular policy position. We will not knowingly publish a victim’s or survivor’s personal testimony, image or identifying information merely because it has been sent to us. Specific, informed consent and appropriate safeguarding consideration will be required before public use. Victim participation must contribute to better criminal justice outcomes. It must never be used merely to score political points, generate publicity or create the appearance of consultation. Further information is available in our Safeguarding and Wellbeing framework and Privacy Notice.
Safeguarding and urgent assistance
IPP Committee in Action is not an emergency, crisis-response, legal representation or clinical service. Messages and emails are not monitored continuously. If somebody is in immediate danger, call 999. Further crisis and support information is provided on our Safeguarding and Wellbeing page. We may take proportionate action where information indicates an immediate risk of serious harm, a safeguarding concern or a legal duty to disclose information.
Acceptable use
You must not use this website to:
break the law or encourage unlawful conduct;
threaten, abuse, harass or deliberately intimidate another person;
submit material that you know is false, defamatory, discriminatory, malicious or seriously misleading;
identify a victim, child, adult at risk or other person without lawful authority or appropriate consent;
impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or connection with an organisation;
introduce malware, interfere with the website or attempt unauthorised access to any system or data;
collect personal information about website users or Inquiry participants without permission; or
attempt to contact victims, witnesses or participants through information obtained from this website.
We may restrict access, remove material, preserve relevant information or report conduct where reasonably necessary to protect people, maintain security or comply with the law.
Information you send to us
You must only send material that you are entitled to provide. You remain responsible for the material you submit and, unless otherwise agreed, retain ownership of your original content. Sending information gives us limited permission to receive, securely store, review and share it internally with authorised people for the purpose for which it was provided. It does not give us unrestricted permission to publish your identity, testimony, documents, photographs or other personal material. Any wider use, quotation or publication will be subject to the consent, privacy, evidence and safeguarding arrangements applicable at that time, unless disclosure is required by law or is reasonably necessary to address an immediate risk of serious harm.
Our handling of personal information is explained in our Privacy Notice.
Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the text, design, branding and original material on this website belong to IPP Committee in Action or are used with permission. You may share links to our public pages and quote short extracts for lawful, non-commercial, educational or campaigning purposes, provided that the source is clearly acknowledged and the material is not presented misleadingly. You must obtain permission before reproducing substantial amounts of original content, using our branding, selling our material or suggesting that we endorse another person, campaign, product or organisation.
Copyright in third-party material remains with its respective owner and may be subject to separate conditions.
External links
This website may link to government departments, courts, charities, news organisations, research bodies and other third-party websites. These links are provided for information and convenience. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their availability, security, accuracy or privacy practices. A link does not necessarily amount to endorsement.
Donations and independence
Where a donation facility is provided, the recipient, purpose, payment arrangements and any specific conditions will be explained at the point of donation. Making a donation does not give a donor the right to influence evidence, appointments, findings, recommendations or the participation of victims, families or people serving IPP sentences. The independence and integrity of the People’s Inquiry must not be compromised by funding or political interests.
Availability and liability
We aim to keep the website available and secure, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access or that every technical problem will be prevented. To the fullest extent permitted by law, IPP Committee in Action will not be responsible for loss arising solely from reliance on general website information, temporary unavailability, unauthorised third-party activity or the content of external websites. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to the website, the People’s Inquiry, our activities or the law. The latest version and its revision date will be published on this page. Continued use of the website after an update means that the revised terms apply to future use.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory legal rights that apply to you because of where you live.
