The UN WGAD will be publicising their opinion on the complaint to the UK Government that 5 ipp prisoners are being held under arbitrary detention
We are expecting the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) to publish its legal opinion within the next week or two in response to the complaint challenging the UK Government's continued detention of people serving IPP sentences.
The complaint argues that holding IPP prisoners indefinitely, long after they have completed their minimum tariff, amounts to arbitrary detention and breaches international human rights law.
This could be a significant moment in the fight for justice for everyone trapped under the IPP sentence and for the families who have campaigned tirelessly for years.
Whatever the outcome, we will continue to fight until this injustice is brought to an end.

We hope, with all my hearts, that the opinion brings the recognition and momentum that IPP prisoners and their families have been seeking for so long.
Keeping our fingers crossed
